Original Ausom chargers: Source’IT’s feedback
At Source’IT, we receive many calls from customers reporting problems with their original Ausom charger: defective chargers, significant overheating, distorted casings, or units described as having melted. Our warning is therefore also based on our customer feedback, not just on the Reddit testimony presented below.
Our professional opinion is critical: in light of this feedback and our experience, we consider the design of the original chargers in question to be very low-end. Overheating that distorts the casing or is accompanied by a burning smell is a sign of failure that must be taken seriously: the equipment may become dangerous and should no longer be used.
These reports do not mean that every Ausom charger is defective. However, they motivate our advice: do not downplay abnormal heating and have your equipment checked. The fact that a charger was included with the scooter does not justify continuing to use it when it shows signs of deterioration.

Broken Ausom charger: a testimony that urges us to respond to warning signs
In a post on r/ElectricScooters, a user explains that the charger delivered with their recent DT2 Pro allegedly “exploded” during charging and caused a power outage. They also note that they had previously noticed significant heating. In an update to the thread, they clarify that the seller eventually sent them a replacement charger.
The essential point: a burning smell, black marks, or repeated power cuts should never be trivialized. Do not wait for another failure to request a check-up and consider replacing the faulty equipment.
This feedback has not been subject to independent expert assessment and does not allow for generalization to the entire range. In a subsequent comment, the author mentions an internal failure rather than a fire. The seller sent them a replacement.
Is a warm charger necessarily defective?
A charger converts electricity and dissipates some energy as heat. A warm casing does not, by itself, indicate a failure. On the other hand, unusual heat accompanied by a burning smell, deformations, black marks, crackling sounds, or power cuts must lead to stopping its use.
There is no universal temperature that can be verified simply by touching the casing. Operating limits depend on the equipment and its user manual. A fan helps dissipate heat, but it does not in itself prove the safety or quality of a charger.
What to do if your charger overheats or trips the breaker?
- Stop charging. Cut the power only if you can do so safely.
- Do not plug the charger back in to test it. Do not open it or attempt to replace its components.
- In the event of smoke or fire, move away, evacuate, and call emergency services (18 or 112). Do not handle the burning battery or charger.
- Contact the seller or customer service with the charger reference, proof of purchase, and photos taken safely. Have the socket or scooter checked if necessary before any new recharge.
To limit daily risks, charge while you are present and awake, on a hard, clear, and non-flammable surface, without covering the equipment or blocking the outlets. Follow the manual and unplug once charging is complete. These precautions align with the safety recommendations from the OPSS.
Which replacement charger should you choose for your Ausom?
The shape of the plug is not enough. Before ordering, verify the output voltage, battery chemistry, permitted current, connector, and polarity together. A plug that fits into the port is not proof of compatibility.
Our product sheets distinguish between the 52 V nominal batteries of the DT2 Pro, associated with a 58.8 V charging output, and the 48 V versions of the L1/L1 Max and L2/L2 Max, associated with 54.6 V. These two output voltages are not interchangeable. Always check your actual version, especially if the battery has been replaced.
Ausom recommends in its FAQ using its original charger or a replacement purchased from the brand with identical characteristics. The Source’IT models presented below are alternatives marketed by our store; we do not present them as certified by Ausom.
Why choose a Source’IT replacement charger for your Ausom?
Do not choose your next charger solely based on its price or the shape of its plug. Prioritize a reference whose characteristics you can verify and from whom you can obtain advice before purchasing. Our Ausom selection allows you to compare models according to your needs.
- Active cooling: the references presented below have a fan to dissipate heat during charging.
- Current choice: a 2 A version and 4 A or 5 A alternatives for the DT2 Pro, subject to compatibility with your configuration.
- Accessible characteristics: output voltage, connector, and protections detailed on the product sheets.
- Contact before ordering: send us the references and photos of your equipment to be directed toward the right model.
Ventilation helps with cooling; it does not replace electrical protections or charging precautions. Consult each sheet to learn the characteristics of the chosen reference.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Ausom charger no longer charges: should I replace it?
A charger that no longer charges may be defective, but the problem could also come from the cable, the connector, or the battery. Send us your scooter model, charger references, and symptoms to be guided before ordering.
Can a ventilated charger still heat up?
Yes. Ventilation contributes to cooling without eliminating all heat or all risk of failure. The openings must remain clear.
Can I use a more powerful charger to save time?
Only if its current is compatible with your entire configuration and applicable prescriptions. Do not infer this compatibility solely from the Ah capacity or the nominal voltage.
Is replacing the charger enough after a breaker trip?
Not necessarily. The fault could lie with the charger, the wiring, the port, the battery, or the electrical installation. If the cause is unknown, a check-up is preferable before resuming charging.
